In the early development of retinal traceability of livestock, cattle were scanned at a meat packer facility in Colorado to identify livestock supplied to an export order that demanded identity validation. The meat-packer averaged scanning the retinas of up to 400 head of cattle per hour and were extremely satisfied with the results.
By positively identifying individual animals from birth or at induction to a property and throughout the food processing chain, the system helps assure food safety, control the spread of animal disease plus adding value to branded premium products.
